GETTING STARTED IN LETS

WHAT DO I GET WHEN I JOIN?

You get a current Directory, the latest newsletter, the current annual calendar, the Rules & Regulations and a Transaction Record book. Newsletters are published approximately 8-weekly. The Directory is updated every 6 months and new members are listed in newsletters in between directory updates.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO JOIN?

It is $20 joining fee & $18 annual fee – calculated at a rate of $1.50 per month. This covers the cost of paper, photocopying and postage for the production of newsletters, Directories and transaction booklets.

HOW DO I JOIN?

Complete the application form, cut it out and post it, together with a cheque/money order payable to Diamond Valley/Northern Suburbs LETS. Calculate the fees due at $20 + $1.50 per month for the months remaining till end of the financial year (30th June).

WHAT AREA DOES DVNS LETS COVER?

Membership for Diamond Valley/Northern Suburbs LETS is drawn from the Shires of Banyule, Darebin, Nillumbik and Whittlesea.

• A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO OFFER THEIR SERVICES FOR POINTS OR CREDITS INSTEAD OF CASH

•EACH POINT OR CREDIT IS WORTH $1 OR WHATEVER YOUR GROUP DECIDES TO PUT ON IT

•SOME TRANSACTIONS MAY INCLUDE PART CASH FOR GOODS BOUGHT

•Having a birthday cake baked and decorated would cost $$s for the ingredients

•Having a fence built would cost cash for materials

HOW DOES THE SYSTEM WORK?

•An administration group or committee is elected annually from membership

•On joining a LETS group, you receive a Directory of Skills, and a “cheque book” or Transaction Record Book.

•To locate a service you check the Directory, select an appropriate member and phone them to arrange a mutually suitable date and cost of the service.

•After the transaction a “cheque” is exchanged and this is sent to the central office for recording.

WHAT TYPES OF TRADES ARE OFFERED?

•Just about anything that is offered in the commercial market can be available:

•Massage, of many styles, is very popular

•Gardening is much in demand

•Lawn mowing would require cash for petrol if using other people’s mower

•Working bees

•Tree lopping

ENTERTAINMENT CAN BE HIRED

Musicians, of many styles ~ Maybe a Clown or Magician!

WHAT ABOUT SOMETHING PRACTICAL?

Have some help with the house work or have some windows cleaned!

WHAT ABOUT A TAROT READING OR PHOTOGRAPHY?

MANY ARTISTS TRADE THEIR ARTWORK FOR PART POINTS/ PART CASH
